Although I wouldn’t consider myself an expert in the field of farm-to-table dinners I have attended a few, and set food on a few of those tables as well. I was shocked when I went to my first dinner and left nearly as hungry as I’d come. The food was great, but portions were dainty. I had imagined a giant wooden table in a field with baskets of bread and butter and all of those nostalgic feelings that come with gathering together for holiday dinners or Sunday supper. The other thing that perhaps surprised me even more was that I didn’t meet any farmers. If I did brush shoulders with one I was unaware of it. Now, to be fair, not all of my experiences have been like this. But isn’t that supposed to be the allure of farm-to-table events? To commune and meet the people who spent countless hours of their lives investing in the meal taking up space on your dinner plate. It was out of this shock and confusion that Feast with a Farmer was born.

A truly farm to table experience

Feast with a Farmer is a collective of local farmers coming together to put food on the table and open up a conversation about the issues we want to solve within the food industry. That could be anything from food deserts, labeling laws, aging farmers, or the dairy crisis. We’re lucky enough to have a very diverse group of farmers joining us including livestock farmers, community and urban gardeners, and dairy farmers. I promise whatever you bring to the table to discuss there will be someone there to connect with. My hope is that through these events we can start conversations and make introductions that go far beyond a few hours and hopefully begin to institute real change in our communities.

Giving back

All of our 2019 Feast profits will be donated to The Berry Center located in Henry County, Kentucky. The Berry Center is putting Wendell Berry’s writings to work by advocating for farmers, land conserving communities, and healthy regional economies. I truly can't think of a better organization to continue these conversations with. You can learn more about The Berry Center and their programs at: https://berrycenter.org/ If you’d like to help maximize our efforts by being a sponsor for this event please email us. We would love to recognize your support!

Go local

I would love nothing more than to hear about a Feasts cropping up across the entire state, heck the entire country! Think about the change we would see if in every county of Kentucky a dozen farmers came together along with their biggest supporters to talk about what’s happening in their own backyard and how to fix it. Then actually fixed it, and in the mean time donated funds to the causes near and dear to their own hearts. If you’re a farmer interested in hosting a Feast of your own feel free to email me for our graphic and other recommendations.
